Take a Walk [OFFICIAL Walkthrough and Review]

Take a Walk

[Play “Take a Walk”] Take a Walk is completely music based, platformer game in witch you control a character who had just got off work and has decided to take a walk [hence the title of the game]. So he places his headphones on and it’s suddenly turned into a music madness, syncing game in witch the music of the game, determines when you should jump, if your beat is off you won’t be earning any points! If you succeed multiple times, pigeons will soon flock around you, giving you extra points in the duration of the game, the pigeons are lost when you bump into something when you’re out and about.

Although “Take a Walk” was very easy in the long-run, the beginning of the game was, to be fair, confusing. The game itself, provided no in-game instructions, which lead to me, hopelessly hopping around the first stage until I actually realized what I had to do in Stage Two, thus the game was much, much easier. I would have liked some in-game instructions, since the game really gave off a bad, first-impression of the whole situation. The rest of the game, the music syncing portion was actually not as difficult as I thought it was going to be, I wouldn’t of minded more intricate levels, if not music to go along with the game and ultimately game “Take a Walk” more difficult. The third level was actually a huge spike in difficulty compared to the other levels, but wasn’t exactly as difficult as I would have liked the game to be.

This was definitely one of the more peaceful games out there, who doesn’t like syncing with classical music in a city environment, as you quickly etch your way to the park. The music choice itself was peaceful and relaxing, but with the extra element of having to sync your character to the music, lead to an effect much like the popular jmtb02 games, where you also must sync the music and follow the rhythm to complete the game[s]. I thought the element of matching the music to your character was an extreme boast for this game, without the idea this would be just another platform game and not a very fun, nor exciting one for that matter.

Take a Walk

The graphics were amazing [created by Min Lin] I wouldn’t doubt it if they were hand-drawn, themselves and then pasted into the game. I loved the graphics, it’s not every day you see something like this, their black and white hand drawn [what I would guess] graphics, witch I simply love! I would compare the graphics to one of the best point and click games, “Sprout” witch are hand-drawn [much easier to tell that they are in this instance] and also include vectorized graphics [from what I can tell]. The graphics work quite well in “Take a Walk” because it’s all about breaking out of the circle, breaking the chain, thinking outside the box, *cough* *cough* you get the idea. Since the game is slightly about think outside the box and whatnot, black and white makes sense, especially since once completing the game, your character and you see the color in the day, as if you’ve achieved something, I just don’t know what exactly!

The sound was spot-on! I loved every second of it! The thing about this game, is how do you define music, is it he background music, or is the rhythm of the objective itself? Either way the background music was phenomenal and was quite relaxing, perfectly matching the idea of the game and it’s storyline. The syncing was perfect and I never once questioned it, though with all the other notes playing at the same time, it can get confusing at times, in terms of gameplay. I would have liked the developer to add more levels, thus more music for the user. The music overall worked very well with the game and I’d like to see more!

I wouldn’t say there was a difficult ramp, actually this was a 2-3 minute game at the most and the difficult maintained almost the same throughout. If anything the difficult ramped slightly between stages one and two, while 2-3 spiked, with a face-paced theme, though it wasn’t too difficult compared to the rest of the game itself. The game being a 2-3 minute deal, really the lead the game to have no difficulty ramp even if the developer wanted to, there just wasn’t enough time to learn the game and adept to it within those three levels, if anything the developer could have added more levels, and follow the same theme as level three, with rock-ish music.

Replay-ability. I would say that if you were into this game, then it presents a lot of replay-ability, with in-game achievements and such. The game even provides the Kongregate API, witch allows you to submits your highscores on Kongregate to compete against other players for the top score. There are also several in-game achievements that allow you to go through the fifty more times, just so that you don’t look like a weird-o, or so that you have a purpose to play again, heck I went through the game four times, just writing this review! So, definitely, if you care to go through the game again, there’s your motivation, in-game achievements, not to mention the Kongregate leaderboards!

Overall “Take a Walk” was a terrific game! I loved the music aspect/essence and twist on the average platformer, and it reminded me of the awesome series of games by jmtb02! I would have loved to see more levels though, [there being only 3] and more music to go along with it. The graphics were amazing and provided a unique feel to the game, that I can only compare to the game “Sprout”. The sound, witch made up the game was terrific [make sure you don’t mute the music, by the way did I mention it was a music game?]! The replay value for this game was tremendous if you were into the game, boasting in-game achievements and the Kongregate API Leaderboards. Make sure that you go play “Take a Walk”! [Play Numz] Game Description: This is a game much like the popular game, Excit. In this game you control a small little kitty [from what I can tell, or it could just be a blob of purple, but I’d rather think it’s a kitty] and must collect orange fish and keys to reach the end of the level. Mutant Madness [OFFICIAL Game Walkthrough and Review]

Mutant Madness

[Play Mutant Madness]Mutant Madness is a neat little game where you fend off oncoming waves of zombies in a post-apocalyptic town, poisoned by an infectious virus, found in the local burgers. Your job is to take down the infected [no, not zombies, silly!] and save the town, if not the world! Take control of Agent Smith, a high-tech ninja [as I would call him] and take him to the streets to solve the mystery of the virus that is quickly spreading through the neighborhood [you can call it “hood” if you’re gangster like that.].

This is actually one of the easier button smashing, zombie/virus infected games you’ll find. I found it extremely easy to breeze through each wave of the infected and level up, occasionally. I would have liked the game to be more difficult, because I didn’t die once, nor did I ever come close to dyeing. I would have expected it to be a little bit more difficult. I think we can break it down to another fact that, a majority of the enemies didn’t have weapons, or the other fact that, if they did have weapons, primarily guns, then the bullets, traveled at 5 miles an hour and we easily evadable, or possibly the fact that the bosses were a joke, I had a tougher time fending off a group of baby chicks in the boss fight, then the actually boss himself. I really think the difficulty ramp, could have been bumped up a bit to make the game a tad bit more interesting.

Mutant Madness, was an, um…interesting game overall, the thing I liked about it, was that it wasn’t zombies, most of these button-mashing, kill-em’-all kind of ideas are about zombies and after the whole genre being about you killing off zombies, it’s nice to see someone mix it up a bit and invent their own infectious disease, because we all love those kind of things! This was game about a corrupt, chicken that sold burgers, that had a secret ingredient [what is that “ingredient” you ask? Well, how am I supposed to know, don’t ask question like that!] that eventually made everyone mindless, infected, civilians. This an, awesome, original idea, I’d definitely think more of this game, because of the unique storyline, that’s actually pretty comical.

I loved the graphics, they were phenomenal, heck not anything realistic, but they looked terrific/phenomenal and did the job for the game. I specifically like these graphics, because they’re not aiming for realistic, but instead the whole opposite direction, imaginary and wondrous and in my book, those are some awesome graphics. The graphics reminded me a lot of Portal Defenders [remember that game where you got to kill some of your favorite Newground members in a fight to the death?] with the same idea [almost] and the same graphics style [definitely]. I found the comparison uncanny, it almost looked like the art was by the same, person, I would bet a couple bucks on that. My only artistic question about this game was, “was that a freaken’ flamethrower?”.

The sound, er…Okay. There were no actually noticable sound effects through the entire game, except the swooshing of your foot or arm slicing through the air on occasion, but other than that the only music you heard was the epic, battle scene music. The music in general was good, but the use of sound effects, just wasn’t there, I wouldn’t have minded a couple of people falling down with a thud, or people screaming there heads of, but whatever, the music made up for it and put you there, in the game.

I wouldn’t say there was exactly any difficult ramp, it stayed flat throughout the entire game, which made me slightly sad, since I was hoping for some epic boss battle at the end, where I’d end up cussing my head off and cry, just like I did in the original Meat Boy [especially Meat Boy: Map Packs]. If not anything the game had a couple of spikes here and there of the occasional “difficult” swarm of enemies, that we’re still quite easy to handle, for example, the beginning of the game, you practically never ran across any weapons, while later on in the game they were abundant, yet the difficult never budged, another example of random spikes in the police force that appeared outside the boss’s headquarters later on in the game, there must have been 20 police officers, with shotguns, machine guns and whatnot, that made that part more difficult than the actual, final boss battle, itself.

I wouldn’t say there was a ton of replay-ability here, the game held no unique awards, nor trophies and the only thing to show for your hard work [yet, moving the character around and bashing skulls in, is tough] is a little score, that racks up everything that you’ve done on the game. I think, at the least the developer should add the Kongregate API, which tracks your scores, so that there would be a scoreboard for you to go up against other players instead of the board over at HyperGames [no offense], where Kongregate API could track other statistics [kills, time taken to complete the game, damage taken, ect]. The game could always of help in-game awards which would motivate me to run back through the game again.

Overall, the Mutant Madness was terrific! I loved everything about it, the gameplay was awesome, it really felt like you were that guy, the hero, and that you could take anything down, but that’s where the difficulty failed, I would have loved a challenge, though breezing through the game like you are a God, isn’t half bad either. Graphics were awesome too and felt a lot like the popular game Portal Defenders. The sound, just wasn’t there for me, the music in the background was, but sound effects did not deliver, by any means. The difficult ramp was a tad bit flat throughout the entire game, hence the easiness of the whole thing. The replay-ability could have been worked on, by adding achievements and such. All in all, the game was fantastic, I recommend that you go take the time to go and play it, it’s a good thirty minutes! [Play Mutant Madness]

Shadow Snake [Game Walkthrough and Review]

Shadow Snake

[Play Shadow Snake]Game Description: Stylish arcade game with fresh mechanics. You control the spirit of the snake who wants to escape the Temple of Shadows. In this game you control a spirit snake on his conquest to collect “sunshine” pieces to activate and escape into  a shrine that is in every level, in the center of the dungeon. Avoid and maneuver around the treacherous grasp of the black demons and their Temple of Shadows! [Game is fully controlled with the mouse].

Shadow Snake was actually a very simple and un-complex game, but it lacked difficulty, I cruised through most of the game, attempting levels at the max of 3 times, while the game was easy on most level, the three times max part, those levels, were usually very difficult, compared to the rest of the game. Probably the most difficult part of the game was the length of the snake itself, I was constantly getting hit by Black Demon, because I could get my tail away from them, especially when there is large swarms of critters [Black Demons] after you. All in all ,the game wasn’t that difficult [I have played hardcore mode, yet I am referring to the storyline events in the simplest mode.]. I feel that the only thing that actually made this arcade type game difficult was the tail itself on your snake, I would say that is the number one cause for most of my deaths.

The best thing about this game would have to be it’s unique gameplay, I know the teleport idea is an old one, where the hero escapes form the on-rushing crowd of enemies through a teleporter, just before they catch up to him [in this case the monsters are the Black Demons, pesky little guys aren’t they?] Yet, this idea is unique to the casual gaming industry itself, I do not remember a time when game like this came by [with the teleporter idea, depicted in movies and such, or even star war’s hyper-speed scenes]. To escape to the portal you must collect a series a Sunshine pieces to start up the teleporter while avoiding the nasty Demons. The thing I also really liked about this game was the pesky Black Demons, they were all synced together, like you would see in the hit games Frantic or Pixelvader, where they almost create a pattern and art in my mind.

Shadow Snake

The art was top-notch! I loved the art, the scene is always set in a kind of cavern/dungeon, with rays of light streaming in from the roof, possibly a hole or something along those lines. I would definitely compare the art to the game “Pixel” by agames. In which most of it is very simple ideas all put together and it creates a simply amazing effect. And when I refer to simple idea, I mean creative art that isn’t supper high-tech but remains almost realistic, yet noticeably vectorized or cartoony. The enemies were also noticeably simple, with very smooth animations, that put the whole game together in an art-like perspective.

The music wasn’t half bad either, it’s definitely not the type of music that’ll you’ll want to mute [although there is a mute button] I don’t know what it is about the music, you can listen to it at full speaker level and you can kind of make it adapt to your environment [really hard to explain it] like you can have it on, but not really realize it’s there and accept it [probably just have bad ears, ha.]. Anyways, I really thing the music fits the whole scene of the game, it’s mysterious, uncomplex and is fun to listen too.

The difficulty ramp was a little crooked, in my opinion some levels would be extremely difficult to the point where it seemed like I might give up and then the next level would be extremely easy, take level nine for example, I really thought that level was tough and then level 10, I was like “what?”, level 10 was too easy in my opinion, especially after such a tough level and this lasted throughout the entire game, it was like the ocean, it’s unpredictable [good compariasion, eh?]. Anyways, I thought the difficulty ramp was way too unpredictable, it left me stuck on some levels while after that level I plowed through the next few easily.

I wouldn’t say there was a whole ton of replay-ability factor after I had completed the game once, I’m not going to go back and complete the game again in hardcore mode, even though the levels are entirely different, if just doesn’t hold my attention that dramatically to make me want to go through another round of it. Not like I’m saying it’s a bad game, it’s great, but it’s missing one aspect to me, and than’s replay-ability. In-game achievements could fix this, or possibly the Kongregate API, where highscores could be set up.

Overall Shadow Snake is the perfect game if you have 30 minutes to spare, it’s simple, unique and let’s not forgot super-fun! he game had an awesome concept, that’s almost seemed like the original snake, but it broke away from that idea, and branched off and created it’s own unique style. It lacked difficulty though, at some points of the game it got to difficult and then it’s crooked difficulty ramp would toss in a tough level every now and then to even it out. The music was terrific, it worked perfectly with the game and the art was amazing. All in all it was a great game and a good break from an onslaught of unique games. Definitely go check out Shadow Snake! [Play Shadow Snake]

Best Friends Forever 3 [Game Walkthrough and Review]

Best Friends Forever 3

[Play Best Friends Forever 3 Now] Game Description: Three miners are stuck in a cave and need to work with each other to escape! In this unique puzzler [much like the hit game Chronotron] you control three blue collar miners who are trapped in cave, after a long shift at work. You’ll need every one of your co-workers to make it out alive, using one another a benches, lifts and such to get over high ledges or other scenarios, that will force you to think out side the box. Help your co-worker escape the cave alive!

The only thing that is going to make this puzzle, platfromer game difficult, and this is true to most puzzle games, is either your lack of originality, or your ability to think out side the box, those are the only two factors affecting most puzzle games, but this game adds the difficulty of having to work with yourself, you’ll control all three miners, in which you will have to enumerate a stratagie to solve a puzzle using each miner in different and unique ways to solve each stages’ problem/puzzle.

I thought this game was extremely unique, even if it is comparable to Chronotron or The Company of Myself, Best Friends 3, includes a factors that none of those listed games have, Best Friends 3 has a set limit to the amount of users [in this case miners] that you can have on the screen at the time, unlike Chronotron where the user is allowed multiple entities on the screen at once. Also unlike Chronotron or he Company of Myself, Best Friends Forever 3 doesn’t include a replay/time warp system, you could argue that in turn that, that ruins the puzzle factor of the game, but in circumspection [while the game may not be then, as technically impressive] Best Friends Forever 3 allows the user to control multiple entities on the screen, maintaining all 3, while regulating zero-tolerance towards death, for three entities.

Best Friends Forever 3

The graphics have to be one of my favorite parts about the game, it’s rare when you see a game that mixes vectorized or cartoony type graphics with graphics that we compare to something realistic such as the walls, in-game. I don’t know what it is with the graphics, but I love them, most of the graphics displayed are vectorized, yet hold a realistic value towards them, which is un-doubtfully rare. All of the animations and motions created by the characters, greatly remind me of The Game and Cargo Bridge, both possessing vectorized, yet realistic values, un-forseen in thousands of games.

The sound is actually very fitting for the game, it has some kind of mysterious sound music in the background, perfect for a cave theme, or at the very least a cryptic, and ambiguous one, if not the whole package. Sadly this is practically no SFX [otherwise as known as special (sound) effects] though in recollection, most platformer and puzzlers do not contain SFX, due to the popularity of filling this spot in with music that would in turn drown out any sound effects. This was actually one of the few music tracks that I could keep on forever and not get tired of it, to be honest I really don’t care for this type of music, it was so random, but still didn’t make my ears bleed if you get my idea.

The difficulty ramp was excellent, unlike some games, the tutorial was provided in the first, several levels in the game [since most gamers are too lazy to read the instructions, gamers often find themselves lost and tend to evaluate a game lower due to it’s lack of a proper tutorial.] I really like how Best Friends Forever 3 included an in-game tutorial, this gets you into the game quicker and you can just jump right in and begin playing. The levels progressively became tougher over the course of the entire game, allowing continuous challenge throughout, while never providing the taste of success without a proper confrontation with a unique puzzle, in each puzzle.

I wouldn’t say that there is much replay value in this game, while I agree that it is a tremendous achievement of it’s genre this isn’t exactly a game that your going to come back too, just because there way something else to achieve. There is of course the extras, witch include such items as a upside down camera, or an extra boost in your jumps, but is that really going to keep you coming back, not for me, even at the slightest of proportions. With more replay value [in-game achievements, medal, ect.] this game would be a totally different game, better, yet that doesn’t differentiate it form the game itself, still in-game achievements would be nice.

Overall, I thought this was a terrific game, that perfectly handled every aspect of gaming in the best way possible, providing an in-depth gaming experience, that will boggle your mind and force you to think outside the box. The sound was interesting at the least, but held no SFX [or sound effects] that in my mind would have improved the game, background music or sound effects, I’d go with sound effects. The art was excellent, I loved it, though I can’t really put my finger on what so great about it, beside it looks amazing, it has this unusual factor to it. The only thing that brought this game down a bit was the lack of replay-ability, sure your going to come back to complete the game half-way through, but what about after that, there isn’t much keeping me, to play the game. Anyways, Best Friends Forever 3, all in all, it’s a terrific game, be sure to check it out! [Play Best Friends Forever 3 Now]
